The live-action Minecraft movie has received its first trailer
videogameschronicle.comWarner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have released the first trailer for the live-action Minecraft movie, which is viewable above.
Releasing on April 2, 2025 internationally, and on April 4 in the US, the film is helmed by Jared Hess, who previously directed Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.
It stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple) and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Just Mercy), among others.
An official synopsis reads: “Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
“To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative… the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.”
Netflix and Minecraft maker Mojang Studios announced in May that they’re working on an animated Minecraft series. The news was timed to coincide with Minecraft’s 15th anniversary.
Microsoft acquired Mojang and the game’s intellectual property rights for $2.5 billion in 2014. Minecraft is one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, according to the studio.
