While The Boys’ Billy Butcher has made it perfectly clear in both the live action and comic book series that his main goal is to eradicate supes, especially Homelander, he secretly has an enhancement himself that makes him stronger than most of the superhumans he faces. The Boys’ supes get their power from Compound V, a serum that is widely unpredictable but offers those who take it some type of superpower. In the comics, Butcher gets his hands on some Compound V and makes himself and the other Boys incredibly strong supe-killing supes in the process.
Unlike the Amazon Prime original series, the Boys are aware from the beginning that Compound V is how supes are made, and they use that information to their advantage in taking them down. In The Boys #4 by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, fans are shown for the first time that Compound V is used by the members of the Boys to fight supes hand-to-hand. The version of Compound V Butcher and the Boys use only gives them powers for a short time and only offers them the power of super strength.

A few issues later in The Boys #19, it is revealed that while the Boys’ Compound V is relatively short lived and only makes them super strong as opposed to some of the other godlike powers the serum offers, it makes them stronger than nearly every other supe in existence.
