Blue Protocol will be developed and released on mobile, thanks to a new deal between Tencent and Bandai Namco, according to a new report.
The report, originally published by Bloomberg, says that Tencent has obtained the rights to develop and publish Blue Protocol on mobile. This deal gives global rights to the mobile edition. They seem to already have a team in place to get the work started, similar to how they have worked with outside IPs like Call of Duty and PUBG to bring those successfully to mobile. Other companies have released their MMORPGs on mobile with success, such as Black Desert Mobile , so there’s plenty of precedent set in recent years.
Blue Protocol is currently out on PC in Japan, debuting as Bandai Namco’s fastest Japanese launch with over 600,000 players. The game is set to launch this year in Korea. Bandai Namco’s global publishing deal with Amazon Games will eventually bring the game to many more markets. Amazon’s global release, on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, is set for some time in 2024. Tencent’s deal to develop and publish on mobile could get off the ground soon and complementary windows could be possible.
Neither Bandai Namco or Tencent responded to Bloomberg’s request for comment or confirmation. Regardless, Tencent has a strong track record with its free to play and mobile titles, so adding Blue Protocol to the list wouldn’t be a stretch. Taking an anticipated title to a broader platform release makes sense. With a big budget, splashy attention grabbing project like Blue Protocol , Tencent is certainly—-as the largest game company in the world–in a good place to bring it to life.
