Ted Lasso’s Bill Lawrence has signed a new five-year deal with Warner Bros. The co-creator of the acclaimed Apple TV+ show has risen into the upper echelons of television showrunners in recent years, winning the 2021 Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. Currently gearing up to begin production on a third season next month, Ted Lasso set the record as the most Emmy Award-nominated show in its first season, securing seven wins out of a possible 20 in its first season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence has now signed a new five-year deal keeping him firmly under the Warner Bros. umbrella. The deal, reportedly valued at a whopping nine-figure sum, will kick into effect beginning 2023 after his current agreement expires. Under the new deal, Lawrence and his label, Doozer Productions, are set to continue to produce original content under the Warner Bros. banner for all platforms.

The deal reflects the success of the hit comedy sports series led by Jason Sudeikis and echoes the pay raise awarded to the cast and writing team back in September. Contributing to the deal was the prospective success of Ted Lasso’s third season, as well as Lawrence’s upcoming Apple shows Bad Monkey (starring Vince Vaughn) and Shrinking (starring Jason Segel). Starting his showrunning career back in 1996 with the sitcom Spin City, Lawrence has long since established himself as a reliable source of comedy content, going on to co-create the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning sitcom Scrubs, and the Courteney Cox led series Cougar Town.
