While Brainiac is one of Superman's greatest rivals, DC's most dangerous Coluan may actually be a more personal villain against Supergirl. It's fair to say Kara understands threats against the endangered Kryptonian culture since she grew up there. Even though Superman knows Brainiac and fights him on a regular basis, Kara grew up on Argo City and witnessed one of Brainiac's deadliest attacks firsthand.
Kal-El and Kara Zor-El are undoubtedly the most famous cousins in DC Comics. Although they haven't had many chances to bond in contemporary comics, especially in Supergirl's more modern stories, the two often share a wholesome relationship. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank's 2008 story «Superman: Brainiac,»taking place in Action Comics #866-870, remains one of the best comics where the two cousins share some great moments, reminding everyone why their bond is so beneficial to both characters and their respective developments.

In Johns and Frank's Action Comics #867, Kara and Clark locate a Brainiac drone, alerting the two cousins to an incoming threat. Although she's developmentally younger, Kara is Superman's older cousin. In this issue, she gets to remind fans, and Clark, of her experience on Krypton and the dilemma she faces as «the younger cousin.» Not only was it always Kara's intention to protect her baby cousin Kal, Supergirl also carries some trauma of Brainiac from her childhood on Argo City. She witnessed Brainiac's drones abduct the Kryptonian city of Kandor, which housed some of her best friends. It truly is heartbreaking to hear Kara say: «Sometimes I wish I didn't have any memories of Krypton. Maybe then I'd be like you… Maybe then I wouldn't miss it
