Now a new study has attempted to determine the most popular video game console and manufacturer by using social media data.
The study was conducted by TopRatedCasinos and looked at data from Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube to determine the consoles and manufacturers people are talking about the most. Of course, it should be pointed out that sales numbers are a more definitive way of determining the popularity of a console, though they may not be reflective of modern times. For example, the PlayStation 2 and Wii are two of the top-selling video game consoles, but they aren't used today as much as they were 15-20 years ago.

According to the study, the PlayStation 4 is the most popular video game console today, followed by Xbox One in second place. The PlayStation 5 earned third place, with Nintendo Switch is in fourth. PlayStation 3, Game Boy, Wii U, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Xbox Series X followed. As far as the console manufacturer goes, PlayStation earned the top spot while Nintendo took second and Xbox took third.
It makes sense for PS4 and Xbox One to be two of the most-talked about consoles on social media, as they both have large install bases at the moment, having been released in 2013 and still getting new games to this day.
