Following its announcement earlier this year, Street Fighter 6 received a big gameplay reveal during the PlayStation State of Play event. Street Fighter 6 is slated to arrive in 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
The trailer showed off traditional fights that fans have come to expect in Street Fighter games, but it also appears that the next Street Fighter will have an open-world story mode set in a metropolis. The World Tour mode seems to revolve around training a fighter to take part in tournaments.
We also got a look at several characters in action, including series mainstay Ryu, Chun-Li, and Luke, a DLC character from Street Fighter V. Combat looked flashy, with over-the-top animations accompanying kicks, punches, and signature moves.
Street Fighter 6 will have an online multiplayer suite called Battle Hub, which was briefly shown off at the end of the trailer. A PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership will be required to access the Battle Hub.
It's been more than six years since the release of Street Fighter V, although the game has seen a great deal of DLC and updated editions released, including Arcade Edition in 2018 and Champion Edition in 2020. Notably, this will be the first mainline Street Fighter game released since the departure of longtime series producer Yoshinori Ono.
