Capcom’s new fighting game sequel is going to be multiformat, as the first gameplay trailer reveals they’ve changed the logo.
The PlayStation State of Play on Thursday night was more significant than anyone expected, even though it had very few first party games (just Horizon: Call Of The Mountain). Rather being Sony’s big night it was really Capcom that had the most new games to show off, including the Resident Evil 4 remake, a PlayStation VR2 version of Resident Evil Village, and… Street Fighter 6.
Street Fighter 6 was first announced back in February but at that time Capcom didn’t show any gameplay, whereas that was the primary focus in the State of Play.
It looked great, with an interesting mix of realism and anime style flourishes but the most important information came outside of the State of Play: unlike Street Fighter 5 the game will be multiformat and will release on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S sometime next year.
The video features four fighters: two classic and two brand new. Ryu and Chun-Li being in the game aren’t exactly a surprise but they both looked great, especially Chunners.
It’s still hard to understand why there’s so much focus on newcomer Luke, as he looks pretty obnoxious and there doesn’t seem to be anything particularly special about his moveset. Jamie looks more interesting though, with Capcom describing him as a breakdancer who quaffs a ‘ki-unleashing drink’.
The effects when you perform a special move for any of the characters are cool, as it almost looks like paint being splashed around, while there’s a lot of focus on Metro City in the footage – the location for the Final Fight games.
That suggests that Final Fight’s three main characters Cody, Guy, and Mike Haggar will be in the game,
