Stephen King says Cujo actress Dee Wallace should've been nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the adaptation of his 1981 novel. Wallace stars in the film as Donna, a housewife whose advertising executive husband goes out of town and she goes to the rural home of a mechanic to help fix her car. However, when the owner's large St. Bernard named Cujo is bit by a rabid bat and goes on a murderous rampage on the grounds as Donna's car breaks down with them trapped inside, she must find a way to get her and her son Tad to shelter before they die from heatstroke or from the dog.
Alongside Wallace, the cast for Cujo included Danny Pintauro, Daniel Hugh-Kelly, Christopher Stone, Ed Lauter, Kaiulani Lee, Billy Jacoby and Mills Watson. Directed by Lewis Teague, the horror film hit theaters in 1983 to mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, with some finding it to be dull and devoid of suspense while others defended it for its building tension and Wallace's performance. The years since have seen the reception to Cujo begin to turn in its favor and develop a cult following.
