Disney's annual Disney+ Day has arrived with a lot for Star Wars fans to enjoy, especially a special look at Andor that's nine minutes long. It's the longest preview we've had at the series so far, and you can watch it now over at Disney+, and gives new details about the story.
We now know that the timeline for Andor takes place five years before the events of Rogue One and confirms what we figured out is that it also acts as an origin story for Cassian Andor from a child of war to an eventual member of the Rebel Alliance.
«Andor is how a revolutionary is born,» said star Diego Luna in the Disney+ featurette. «And the beauty of this show is that it commits to a perspective and a point of view. You can tell that there is that integrity behind this character.»
What we learned from being introduced to the character in Rogue One will be expanded upon as showrunner Tony Gilroy explains Andor's specific path he takes in life and why he needed his full story to be told.
«You have this guy in Rogue that's a very complicated warrior, fighter, leader, pilot,» Gilroy explained. «And then that guy is gonna be so committed and passionate to the cause. I want to see what he took to get there and how far away could he be.»
There's a lot of behind-the-scenes footage of new planets and characters with Gilroy explaining that in the five years between this and Rogue One, the Empire is expanding while also the Rebellion is «popping up everywhere» and how this show will deal with «real people, real behavior, real needs, real anxieties, and real decisions.»
Andor starts streaming on September 21 with a three-episode premiere, only on Disney+.
