THQ Nordic has revealed the first gameplay footage for SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake.
During its 2022 showcase, one of THQ's biggest announcements of the night was the long-awaited gameplay reveal of SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake. The Cosmic Shake was revealed last year through a CG trailer that showed SpongeBob running through different dimensions with a balloon Patrick by his side. Now we've finally seen for ourselves how the game plays.

The trailer showed SpongeBob and Patrick starting off in a world where Gary has mutated into a giant slug spitting poison. We then get to see several shots of gameplay, where it's made clear that The Cosmic Shake is a spiritual sequel to Battle For Bikini Bottom, with the same kind of movement and combat.
SpongeBob does seem to have a variety of new moves, however. Alongside being able to swap costumes to get different abilities like using karate to jump between enemies and riding seahorses around, SpongeBob also seems to be able to glide using a Krusty Krab Pizza box as a permanent addition to his moveset. Battle for Bikini Bottom fans will also recognise the tongue slide that SpongeBob performs in one section of the trailer.
The trailer showed a few distinct worlds, and it was stated that there will be seven of them overall, including a Wild West world, a prehistoric world featuring SpongeGar and Squog, and Halloween Rock Bottom, which seems to be the first world we get to see in the trailer with SpongeBob in a daisy costume. It looks like each world will be laid out in a similar manner to Battle for Bikini Bottom, with individual challenges and objectives to complete around them.
