With the Nintendo Switch approaching the end of its life and Nintendo preparing or its next-gen console – which, as per leaks, is targeting a March 2025 release – it goes without saying that the company will be preparing next instalments in a number of its major franchises for its upcoming console. Splatoon has, of course, turned into a major franchise for Nintendo over the course of the decade, and sure enough, it’s been claimed that its next instalment is also in the works.
Prominent leaker Midori recently took to Twitter to claim the same, stating that Nintendo is currently working on an unannounced game under the codename Spiral. Though there seemingly isn’t exactly clarity on this front, the leaker says that based on her information, the game in question is “very likely” to be Splatoon 4.
Splatoon 3 is, of course, roughly a couple of years old at this point, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that its successor is in the works. Of course, even if that is the case, it still remains to be seen how far along the game will be in development at this point, and what that’ll mean for when Nintendo is prepared to announce it.
There is a a game project at Nintendo with the codename Spiral.
By researching the data I have received in the last month, it is very likely that this is the codename for the next entry in the Splatoon series. pic.twitter.com/dIp5yMf94n
