Splatoon 3 is finally out in the world and the threequel’s release is a bittersweet one for some. As the clock counted down on Friday for the release of the third installment, many dove back into the world of Splatoon 2 to say one final goodbye.
As documented by Eurogamer, just before the release of Splatoon 3, many logged back into its predecessor to leave some heartfelt messages of gratitude to the FPS. The messages which adorned the game’s main hub, Inkopolis Square, ranged from simple goodbyes to some heartwarming thanks for the popular Switch title. While many of the messages also shared the excitement of getting to dive into a new Splatoon title, others lamented the fact that they were “too broke” or simply unable to grab a copy of the game.

There were even some messages with rather impressive drawings of in-game characters showing how much Splatoon 2 meant to some. Others took the opportunity to brag about how many hours they spent in the game. For example, one person shared they had racked up over 3,000 hours lobbing paint over the game's five-year lifespan.
All in all, it's nice to see people come together to celebrate a game that meant so much to them. With Splatoon 3 offering much of the same experience as its predecessor with several smart updates tossed in, it's likely that Splatoon 2 will fade away sooner rather than later. However, it can go out knowing that it splattered — I mean mattered — to many.
