Coming out of Gamescom Opening Night Live, it's clear that October and November are going to be absolutely packed with big games. It's always a busy time of year, but fans are going to have limited wiggle room between releases. One of the games confirmed for November at Gamescom ONL was Sonic Frontiers.
A new Sonic Frontiers trailer debuted at Gamescom, showing a little more of its gameplay and an interesting character cameo, but many haven't been impressed with it so far. Gamescom didn't do much to change that. The only real thing it confirmed was Sonic Frontiers' release date of November 8, which is not a good pick. It feels like Sega may be sendingSonic out just to be overshadowed.

It's not necessarily uncommon for games to release close together or even on the same day. In fact, it seems one reason Gotham Knights moved its release date up four days is to distance itself from October 28, when twoResident Evil projects, Bayonetta 3, andModern Warfare 2 all drop. That week gives fans more time with Gotham Knights before they move on, and that could be good for the title. Sonic Frontiers does not have this same benefit.
Sonic Frontiers shares its release date with Skull and Bones, which isn't necessarily a bad pairing. Fans will likely play one or the other, depending on their personal taste. But Skull and Bones already ran the risk of being overshadowed on the following day, November 9, and Sonic now shares that fate. Exactly one day after Sonic Frontiers and Skull and Bones release is God of War Ragnarok's release date.
