When looking at new hardware releases as an Android you want two things. The first is that there’s a major increase in specs, and the second is that it’s better than Apple. Well, we might be getting both. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor is coming, and the rumored benchmarks are looking super promising.
Not only is it a big bump in performance but it might also outdo Apple’s shiny new A16 Bionic chipset.
Previous Snapdragon 8 iterations have fallen short of their counterparts, but we might be experiencing a sea change.
According to notebookcheck.net, the numbers came up on a Geekbench score posted on the Korean site Meeco. Not only did the benchmarks outstrip the A16 Bionic, but the post claimed the SoC has improved on power consumption over its previous version.
The Gen 3 allegedly consumes 20% less power than the Gen 2, which would be great news for everyone who finds themselves constantly reaching for a charger.
It’s worth keeping in mind that all this is pretty unverified, and if it’s true, it might not reflect the specs of the end product. There can be issues such as overheating that mean that while processors are capable of greater power, they might need to be scaled back to be suitable for the market.
We might have a while to wait to see how the end product shapes up. There is no firm release date for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 yet. The most optimistic estimates put it somewhere toward the end of the year, though we might not see it until 2024.
Ultimately, we can’t make any firm predictions this far from any release. Will this be the SoC that finally knocks the iPhone off its perch in terms of processing power? Well, we’re pretty excited to find out.
