Sleepwalkers was Stephen King's first horror tale written entirely for the screen, and it came complete with lots of celebrity cameos. King may be known as the preeminent master of literary horror, but he's also shown a tendency for writing some of the weirdest stories in the genre. Sometimes these strange choices work, such as with the murderous-car novel (and movie) Christine, while other times the result is something like The Mangler, a woefully bad story about a demonic laundry machine.
The 1992 movie Sleepwalkers is one of Stephen King's oddest projects, as it concerns a mother and son pair — the titular cat-like creatures — who can only survive by sucking out the lifeforce of virgin women. As if that wasn't weird enough, the mother and son also sleep together on the regular, adding a grossness level to the movie that is liable to put many potential viewers off. Still, this strangeness has led Sleepwalkers to become something of a cult item.

Adding to the cult appeal of Sleepwalkers is its inclusion of many big names in genre cinema, albeit in very small roles. King has a habit of making appearances in movies and miniseries based on his work, and the Mick Garris-helmed Sleepwalkers is no different. But in addition to King's usual cameo, the movie also features brief appearances from the likes of Mark Hamill, Clive Barker, Tobe Hooper, Joe Dante, and John Landis.
