A keen-eyed Twitter user discovered that at some point, the world of The Sims 4 experienced the fungal infection from The Last of Us in a neat little Easter egg. Players have already uncovered a multitude of Easter eggs within the many worlds of Sims 4, and finding them during the process of constructing a Sim's life is something that never gets old. With such a penchant for these homages, it's unsurprising that the most recent Sims 4 Werewolves DLC contained Twilight Easter Eggs.
In the vast sandbox of Sims 4, Easter eggs are almost as prevalent as the resources players use to develop their living space within EA’s social simulator. These loving nods to other well-known franchises can range from visual callouts to subtle references hidden within an item’s description. Observant fans have already uncovered references to Stranger Things, Moana, Queen, Spirited Away, and Avatar: The Last Airbender with many more still hiding in the sandbox. With so many expansions and game packs added over Sims 4’s life cycle, the references have only continued to pile on.

Twitter user AbbyStanAccount had discovered a Last of Us Easter egg hidden in the reeds of The Sims 4. The item description for a specific environmental decoration called Jerry’s Reeds contained a fairly juicy Last of Us reference to those familiar with Naught Dog’s dystopian action game. For starters, the reed originated at St. Mary's Hospital, which in The Last of Us served as the home base of the revolutionist group known as the Fireflies. The item description continues by saying that the reed was used for research "into experimental vaccines intended to counter parasitic fungal infections."
