Frogwares, the team best known for its Sherlock Holmes games, has announced Project Palianytsia, an all-new eldritch horror title that will also mix in a Victorian-era mystery. The studio's most recent game, Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One launched in November 2021 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series platforms, with a PS4 version becoming available to purchase this past April. Due to the ongoing war with Russia, however, the Kyiv, Ukraine-headquartered development house had no choice but to indefinitely delay the Xbox One iteration of Chapter One.
Founded in 2000, Frogwares made a name for itself by developing several Sherlock Holmes-branded interactive experiences, each one an adventure game with detective-based gameplay resting at the core. The crew doesn't only produce Sherlock games, however. Notably, 2019's The Sinking City allowed Frogwares to expand its horizons a bit in a Lovecraftian horror tale starring Private Investigator Charles W. Reed. A bizarre mystery may have once more sat front and center, but The Sinking City's eldritch motif ensured it offered players an adventure far removed from that of Frogwares' usual projects.

In light of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, the Kyiv-based Frogwares found itself needing to pivot. As a result, the studio's next game will prove "more streamlined" compared to its recent open-world efforts, a move that should allow the team to deliver something new "under these extreme circumstances."
