After almost 30 years, Shannon Loftis is leaving Microsoft.
In a post on the Age of Empires website, she revealed that she was departing the company in order to spend more time with her family and on her hobbies. Loftis joined Microsoft back in 1993 working in the company's IT department. From there, she moved to be lead producer of the firm's action arcade and strategy games group, before moving to the Big M's racing games department.
Since then, she has risen up the the ranks, eventually holding the role of GM in Xbox Entertainment Studios and her current position of GM of global games publishing. She's also the studio head of World's Edge, Microsoft's arm that handles Age of Empires.
"Team Xbox has been an amazing environment to incubate our dreams, and the support we’ve had across the board from Phil Spencer, Matt Booty and Aaron Greenberg, to the PC Game Pass team, to the store teams both at Microsoft and Valve, has been nothing short of amazing. I could not be prouder of the World’s Edge team or our partners including Relic Entertainment, Forgotten Empires and Tantalus," Loftis wrote.
"I always told myself that I’d leave Microsoft only at a high point, and there has been no higher point than this. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the support, passion, fun, commitment, feedback and joy you’ve all provided for all of us."
