Samsung has emerged as the top smartphone brand selling 5G smartphones in India in the period of Q2 2022. The latest report from Counterpoint Research suggests that Samsung dominated the 5G smartphone market once again in the second quarter of the year. Samsung was also able to dominate the “affordable premium segment” that consist of phones costing between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 45,000. Samsung covers this space with its multiple Galaxy A and Galaxy M series smartphones.
The report says that this growth of Samsung was helped by a revamped Galaxy M series and a strong demand for the flagship Galaxy S22 Ultra. Additionally, the company also introduced various financing schemes in Tier 2 cities that helped it expand its growth. The company's new e-stores also helped with the growth.
On the other hand, rival brand Apple showed a growth of 63 percent in the second quarter of 2022. Apple dominated the ultra premium segment (above Rs. 45,000) and it was largely helped with the company's own online store doing good business. Additionally, the report says that the iPhone SE 2022 is expected to drive sales in the upcoming quarters and the offers on other iPhone models.
It was Xiaomi, however, who dominated the smartphone market but it observed a decline of 26 percent YoY. “Xiaomi faced multiple issues like component shortages, which persisted throughout Q2, inflation and increasing competition in the entry-level segment,” says the report. The company relied on its Redmi 10 series budget smartphones to gain its top position and the occasional sales also helped the company's cause. It also captured the third position in 5G smartphone shipments.
