Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky has been added to a federal wanted list by the Russian government after he demanded the war in Ukraine be stopped.
Glukhovsky is best known for his series of Metro novels, which started with Metro 2033 and subsequently became a very popular video game franchise. However, as RadioFreeEurope reports(Opens in a new window), Glukhovsky believes he is now wanted by the Russian authorities following comments he made regarding the invasion of Ukraine.
Glukhovsky posted on Telegram(Opens in a new window) (Google translated) stating he stands accused of discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for a post he uploaded on Instagram. That post included the demand to, "Stop the war! Recognize that this is a war against an entire nation and stop it!" Learning that he's on a wanted list hasn't changed his mind, though, and he's more than happy to reiterate the statement.
Luckily, Glukhovsky isn't living in Russia so the chances of him being detained by the Russian authorities are quite slim. Russia enacted two laws(Opens in a new window) back in March that criminalize independent war reporting and protesting the war, with that second law being the one Glukhovsky has violated. If caught, he'd face up to 10 years in prison, but the punishment could be extended to 15 years if he was found guilty of distributing "deliberately false information."
