However, Capcom appears to be teasing a major announcement in the near future which may end up being the next main entry in the series — Street Fighter 6.
Street Fighter 5 originally released in 2016 on PC and PlayStation 4, eight years after 2008's Street Fighter 4 and only the second mainline series release since 1997's Street Fighter 3. The game initially released to mixed reviews as both players and critics praised the gameplay but were unhappy with the apparent lack of content and roster of only 16 characters. Subsequent DLC packs, along with the releases of the Arcade Edition and Champions Edition, addressed these criticisms, provided fresh gameplay balancing, and a roster currently boasting 46 fighters.
Street Fighter is Crossing Over With Magic The Gathering
Rumors of a Street Fighter 6 announcement appeared on Twitter after Capcom posted a countdown timer on its official website. While Capcom provided no clues as to what the timer is for, games industry reporter Jeff Grubb said the timer is likely preceding the fighting game's official reveal. He said on the latest episode of his podcast, GrubbSnax, an insider at Capcom informed him about the impending Street Fighter 6 reveal but did not give any details about a release window or platforms.
Grubb's comments quickly made their way to Twitter, which have been shared repeatedly among Street Fighter players.
