Riverdale’s KJ Apa has reacted to the news that the long-running CW show will come to an end following the upcoming season 7. New Zealand-born Apa was propelled to stardom when he was cast as the lead hero Archie in the teen drama series in 2017. Riverdale, a gritty adaptation of the golden-age Archie comic strips, has dabbled with mystery, murder, the supernatural, and more over the last 5 years on the air. Alongside his friends Betty, Veronica, and Jughead, Archie has conquered several huge plots and dastardly villains.
Following a shift in focus and diminishing ratings, The CW network has announced a slew of cancellations across several of its most popular IPs. Among the casualties have been long-running fan favorites from Legends of Tomorrow to Dynasty. Despite being renewed, audiences were gutted to learn yesterday that Riverdale season 7 will be the show’s last. The concluding series of episodes will air in the midseason slot of 2023, and will supposedly tie a bow on the increasingly madcap adventures of the gang.

The nature of the show’s cancellation however appears bittersweet to the star, as he admits “it’s perfect […] all great things have to come to an end.” Apa’s love for his co-stars is clear, but his acknowledgment that the show is reaching a perfect endpoint is also evident.
