Report: Bandai Namco victim hit by hack
Japanese publishing giant Bandai Namco has reportedly been the victim of a ransomware attack.
That's according to a post on Twitter from vx-underground – which claims to be the biggest collection of malware source code, samples and paper online – which reckons that ransomware group ALPHV has managed to ransom the Elden Ring publisher.
These kinds of attacks generally involve a bad actor infiltrating a company's network and then encrypting all information in an effort to extort money from the owner.
"ALPHV ransomware group (alternatively referred to as BlackCat ransomware group) claims to have ransomed Bandai Namco.
Bandai Namco hasn't commented publicly on this news yet.
Bandai Namco isn't the first games company to face this kind of attack. CD Projekt – which also works with Bandai Namco on The Witcher franchise and Cyberpunk 2077 – saw its network hacked and hit with ransomware in February 2021. Source code from the company's games was auctioned shortly after on the dark web.
