The good news is that Raised by Wolves will very likely get a third season, as it wraps up season two with so many loose ends that the alternative would be shameful. The bad news is that this season goes out on an episode with a few nonconsecutive minutes of greatness and a ton of misguided anticlimax. Just like the last episode, Lukas Ettlin takes up the director's chair while series creator Aaron Guzikowski handles the screenplay. Fitting that the duo would handle both the best episode of the series and the weakest. As this is the end of this season, some spoilers ahead for both it and the finale.
After the dynamite reveal of the serpent's true form and the unveiling of a design that mixed Kaiju with scripture to create something incredible, Mother undertakes new methods to deal with her spawn. By borrowing the veil from the newly reconstituted android Grandmother, she's able to dampen her emotions and take a more coldly efficient view on protecting her kids. The scene in which she takes to the sky to exterminate the beast she created comes early in the episode, and it is stellar. A perfect cap to Lamia and Number Seven's shared narrative, while also being visually flawless. If it weren't a massive spoiler, it'd make a perfect trailer moment for the series.
Raised By Wolves' Second Season Improves On The First
While this moment is nearly perfect, it isn't the only strong part of the episode. It is, however, the one loose end that the season finale manages to tie up.
