QNAP is bringing some of its products back from the dead.
The company says it will continue to release security updates and provide support for some end-of-life (EOL) models of its network attached storage (NAS) devices until October 2022.
QNAP says the change is dedicated to "helping users to defend against evolving security threats and allowing users to have more time to implement device upgrades."
But there are some caveats: The company warns that "EOL models may lack computational capabilities, be short on operational memory, be unable to receive up-to-date component drivers, or possess other technical constraints or deprecated technology."
This extended support is said to be available for all NAS devices (including those running 64-bit x86 processors as well as Arm chips) running the QTS 4.2.6, 4.3.3, 4.3.6, or 4.4.1 software.
Continuing to release security updates for these devices follows QNAP's decision to force-install software updates as the DeadBolt ransomware targeted its NAS products in January. It also encouraged users to enable automatic updates to improve the security of their devices.
