Horizon Forbidden West's launch is approaching fast, and if you intend to play Sony's next big console game, consider getting the PS4 version of it — even if you'll play on your shiny new PS5. This way, you can save $10 because of the free current-gen upgrade.
Horizon Forbidden West for PS5 is currently available for pre-order on the PS Store for $69.99 (or £69.99), and the price will remain the same after the title is launched on February 18. The game's version for the older PS4 is priced at $59.99 (or £59.99). The catch here is there is no catch at all: if you get the PS4 version of Forbidden West, you'll be able to upgrade for PS5 at no extra cost. But this is the last time you can pull that off.

The whole situation is a bit tricky with Forbidden West. Initially, Sony's Jim Ryan promised that the PS4 versions of the game would include a free upgrade for PS5 owners. However, after the title was delayed, Sony rethought its approach and decide to charge extra to those who want to experience the game on current-gen. This announcement didn't go down well with the public, leading to the company eventually walking back on that decision and offering the cross-gen improvements at no additional cost.
Keep in mind, there is no difference whether you're buying the game physically or digitally — you'll still be able to upgrade for free. However, the PS4 version of Horizon Forbidden West may not show in PS Store search results on your PS5 console, but you can still purchase the lower-priced version via your browser on any other device. Also, if you start playing the sequel on PS4, you'll be able to transfer your saved game to PS5 when you finally get one.
