Last month, Sony completely revamped its PlayStation Plus subscription service by combining it with PlayStation Now to create three new tiers: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. The PS Plus Essential tier includes free PS Plus games that subscribers can claim every month, while PS Plus Extra is more akin to something like Xbox Game Pass, with subscribers only having access to the games while they're on the service. PS Plus Premium takes things a step further by adding retro games to the mix. It was unclear how often Sony would be updating the PS Plus Game Catalog for the various tiers, but the first big update has been confirmed for July 19.
On July 19, PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to the addition of 17 games across the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers, including a brand-new, day one release. Come July 19, PS Plus subscribers are free to check out day one game Stray at no additional cost beyond what they pay for their subscription. Stray, for the uninitiated, is a game where players explore a cyberpunk city as a cat. It's been turning heads since its reveal for its unique premise and high-quality visuals, so it makes an especially exciting addition to the PS Plus Game Catalog.
PS Plus Free Games for July 2022 Take Up a Lot of Space
Stray will be joined by a variety of other games on July 19, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Marvel's Avengers, Saints Row 4: Re-Elected, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition, Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure, Jumanji: The Video Game, Paw Patrol on a Roll, ReadySet Heroes, and a whopping five Assassin's Creed games.
