When Sony launched the PlayStation 5, it did so alongside major changes to its PlayStation Plus subscription program. Besides giving PlayStation Plus subscribers access to a free PS5 game every month alongside the two PS4 offerings, Sony also introduced the PS Plus Collection, giving PS5 owners access to some of the best PS4 games ever made. The PS Plus Collection games have remained static since they were introduced, but that will change come May.
Along with revealing the free PS Plus games for April 2022, Sony also confirmed that critically-acclaimed JRPG Persona 5 is leaving the PS Plus Collection come Wednesday, May 11. While this may be disappointing news to some, it's not that big of a deal if one already has a PS5 and PS Plus subscription handy. If PS Plus subscribers claim Persona 5 through the PS Plus Collection, they will have access to the game for the duration of their PlayStation Plus subscription, even after it's been removed from the lineup.

This is in contrast to how Sony will be handling some games with its new PS Plus tiers. This June, Sony will be making more huge changes to PS Plus by introducing the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers. These tiers will include access to a lineup of games that will be «regularly refreshed,» meaning they will rotate in and out, similar to Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Now. The PS Plus Collection games are instead treated like normal free PlayStation Plus games, so all fans have to do is claim them, and they'll have the titles readily available in their digital library for as long as they're signed up for PS Plus.
