iPhone users have often complained about poor battery life in the past. People owning older devices are plagued by battery life issues so much that these iPhones need to be charged twice or even thrice a day. However, Apple has greatly improved the battery life of its recent iPhones. In fact, the iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 14 Pro Max are at par with smartphones with the best battery life in the market. Only battery specs do not make up how long your iPhone's battery will last. It also depends upon your usage hours, the type of work you're getting done on it and the apps you've got open in the background.
What most people do not know is that there's also a way you can save a good amount of battery life on your iPhone, especially in dire circumstances. That is by turning off one feature called Background Refresh. This feature allows apps to refresh their content in the background while you're not using them. Although it will help you keep up-to-date with the latest news as soon as you open the app, it also eats up a chunk of your iPhone's battery.
By turning it off, apps run for a short period of time before they're set to a suspended state. Apps that are in a suspended state aren't actively in use, open, or taking up system resources. Here's how you can turn off this feature.
Go to your iPhone’s Settings and tap on General.
Tap on Background Refresh.
If you’d like to disable the Background Refresh feature for a particular app, then press the toggle in front of the app.
If you’d like to turn it off entirely, then tap the Background Refresh option at the top and set it to Off.
Alternatively, you can select the WiFi option which will enable background refreshing only when you’re connected to a WiFi network to preserve data.
