The newest Pokémon Presents isn’t even 15 minutes long and yet fans have big expectations for it, such as Gen 9 or a new Pokémon Stadium.
February 27 marks the anniversary of the very first set of Pokémon games in Japan, so naturally The Pokémon Company has selected that day to hold a new Nintendo Direct style Pokémon Presents.
Announced via the official Japanese Twitter account, it’s expected to run for less than 15 minutes, but considering previous presentations saw major game reveals like New Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, fans already have quite lofty expectations for it.
The big demand, of course, is for Generation 9, aka the next mainline entries following Pokémon Sword & Shield. It has been three years since those games’ release and gaps between the start of each generation are usually only three to four years – which is why some are hopeful not just for a reveal but a 2022 release date.
A quick glance through Twitter, however, shows that there are just as many who doubt a Gen 9 reveal is on cards. Some simply don’t want it either, because they believe it’s too soon after Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ release last month.
There have also been a couple of rumours claiming that a brand new Pokémon Stadium could be announced. The first comes from a 4chan post (shared via ResetEra) in January, which said that a Pokémon Presents would air on February 17 and reveal Pokémon Stadium Max for a late 2022 release.
The post adds that the presentation would feature updates on multiple Pokémon projects, like an expansion pass for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and only tease Gen 9 with no real details. Aside from getting the date wrong, it coming from 4chan makes it difficult to trust and some of its claims feel like educated guesses
