Pokemon Go is changing the way that PokeCoin Event Boxes work, removing Remote Raid Passes in favour of a rotating pool of items.
"As of this month - Mega Energy and Rare Candy XL are available as rewards for completing local raid battles, making it easier to evolve and strengthen your Pokemon," the Pokemon Go Live blog states. "Also, starting on May 23, the shop's one PokeCoin Event Box will no longer include Remote Raid Passes and will instead feature a rotating array of items."

This seems to be in an attempt to push players to get back out to find raids in-person, although you can still get Remote Raid Passes in other ways. The change hasn't been popular, though, as a Reddit thread saying "Classic Niantic" has already begun to gain traction.
"They just keep making more reasons to quit," block_ed wrote. While Sea-Middle-7594 added, "Season of greed." Others report that the three raid pass bundle has been upped to 300 coins as well, making it harder to get Remote Raid Passes. Others highlight that the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and that they're uncomfortable going to busy raid spots around other people, while some simply don't like being around crowds, to begin with.
Wherever you land, the easiest way to get Remote Raid Passes is being removed, although it's unclear what will replace them. You'll still get the usual assortment of Pokeballs and Revives, but this new pool of random goodies is up in the air right now. We won't have to wait long to find out, at any rate, as the update changing the way the PokeCoin Event Boxes work goes live in three days.
