Natsume Inc has finally announced the western release date for its cheerful old-school sequel Pocky and Rocky Reshrined — the cutesy top-down shmup will launch in the west on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on June 24, a little over two months from its April 21 Japanese release. Happy news!
As we have reported numerous times since the title’s inception, Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, despite its remaster-sounding title, is actually a fully-fledged sequel set within the classic Kiki Kaikai universe. Players can choose from a number of heroes, including Pocky, Rocky, and their new friends Ame no Uzume, Gozen Hotaru, and Ikazuchi, before embarking on a quest to save the town from the returning villain, The Black Mantle.
Despite the title’s relatively old-school look, Pocky & Rocky Reshrined has been on quite a journey to fruition. Patient fans will be excited to see the fun-looking sequel finally get an official release date. I have to admit that it has always looked pretty infectious, and more compelling with each new trailer. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing the shrine maiden and her tanuki pal make their long-awaited return.
Pocky & Rocky Reshrined launches in the west on PS4 and Nintendo Switch June 24. Physical editions, including a special Collector’s Edition, are now available to pre-order from the Strictly Limited Games and Gamesrocket online stores.
