Paddington 3 has announced both its title — Paddington in Peru — and its new director, Dougal Wilson, but it already has two big challenges to overcome. Based on the beloved children's books by Michael Bond, the first two Paddington movies managed to be both critically acclaimed and hugely commercially successful. A second sequel starring Ben Whishaw as the voice of the titular bear from Peru has been much-anticipated since the release of Paddington 2 in 2017.
After delays and the departure of original director Paul King — he remains on board in a creative capacity — the third Paddington movie is finally entering production with a story apparently returning the character to his home. Whether the Brown family will be joining Paddington on his trip to Peru remains to be seen. There's also no word on who will be following in Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant's footsteps as Paddington 3's villain. However, it's clear that the third entry in the Paddington trilogy already has a couple of very tough acts to follow.

Sequels are notoriously difficult to get right, and it's usually commerce, rather than storytelling potential, behind their proliferation in the modern cinema landscape. Paddington 2 bucked the trend of disappointing sequels with a movie even better than the original. However, such a feat can be hard to replicate for a second time, especially with a new director and a story that appears to abandon what made the first two installments so successful.
While Paul King and his Paddington writing team of Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton are still attached to the third movie, King's directorial absence could be keenly felt. Producer David Heyman confirmed King
