Overwatch fans have had about a week with the new Anniversary event, and in that time, its strengths and weaknesses have become clear. While some gamers are let down that a batch of recolors has been added in place of brand-new cosmetics, even going so far as to meme Reinhardt’s new skin, there are several other upsides to the event.
The Anniversary Remix is the perfect time for new Overwatch players to give the game a try and for lapsed players to return. With nearly every skin released for the game able to be unlocked, and almost every brawl able to be played, the event provides new gameplay options every day and gives gamers a reason to log in. For that reason, it would be best to keep the Anniversary content coming until the official release of Overwatch 2.

The big thing setting the Anniversary Remix apart is its approach to weekly challenges. These weekly challenges give players the chance to unlock skins from hero challenges, letting them pick up outfits they may have missed like Nano D.Va, Bastet Ana, and Combat Medic Baptiste. While this will not be appealing to those that finished every hero challenge, those that missed out on a few of them will surely be thrilled to have a second chance.
With two more Volumes planned for the Anniversary Event, six more hero challenge skins will be earnable once again. Though this is exciting, it is worth noting that this will not be enough time to bring back every hero challenge outfit. While newer cosmetics like the ones from Cassidy and Reaper’s hero challenges could be the ones left out, it would be great to see a fourth Volume added to ensure that these are also available again for those that did not play during their initial release.
