Nvidia recently showed off its newest GPUs with the RTX 4080 and 4080. But, what good are new graphics cards without some gameplay demonstrations to show what they are capable of? Overwatch 2 releases in early access next month. Looking ahead, Nvidia has given players a look at how the upcoming shooter will perform on the RTX 4090 with a new framerate cap.
In a new gameplay video which you can see below, Nvidia shows off Overwatch 2 running at more than 460 fps with a resolution of 1440p. At its best settings, it appears that Overwatch 2 can even reach up to 600 fps. This is possible due to the upgraded power of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090.
The company states: “Thanks to the incredible power of the GeForce RTX 40 Series, Overwatch 2 has increased its framerate cap from 400 FPS to 600 FPS. With the power of GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs and NVIDIA Reflex, 360+ fps 1440p competitive gaming is now a reality.”
Nvidia will launch the RTX 40-series, with both the 4080 and 4090, on October 12, which is eight days after the release of Overwatch 2. The company has confirmed that using a 4090 will enable players to attain framerates in excess of 360. Nvidia’s senior director of product management, Justin Walker, spoke to PC Gamer to talk about working with Blizzard to achieve this result.
“Turns out, the 40-series GPUs are so fast that the team over at Blizzard have increased the Overwatch 2 frame cap to 600 frames per second.”
In addition to the improvements in framerate and performance, Nvidia also confirmed that Nvidia Reflex will work in Overwatch 2. Nvidia Reflex is a system that is used to cut down on latency with some clever optimizations. It was previously used in the original Overwatch, as well as games like Battlefield 2042.
