After much anticipation, Overwatch 2 is finally here. On October 3, the servers for Overwatch 1 shut down and just 24 hours later, the new edition of the game was released worldwide. After a largely successful journey of six years, the developers wanted to make changes to the game to keep it relevant and add elements to make it upgradable. As a result, Overwatch 2 witnessed the team size reduced from six to five, the introduction of battle pass, passive roles and hero reworks. And just two days into the era of Overwatch 2, various reports have revealed the roadmap of the game for the rest of 2022 and beyond. Blizzard Entertainment, the publisher of the game had a clear idea of turning the popular first person hero shooter into the wildly trending freemium model. For the unaware, a freemium model is one where the game is made available for free along with some basic features. The premium and most lucrative features are kept behind a paywall where users have to make recurring payments as a subscription.
Following the same model, Overwatch 2 added Battle Pass to it. Similar to mobile games like PUBG New State and FIFA Mobile, the game is now divided into seasons and each season will come with multiple tiers that can be reached by completing tasks. Reaching each tier unlocks rewards that can range from new heroes, skins and more. There will be two types of season milestones — free and premium. A player that subscribes to premium battle pass will also get the free rewards.
