Overwatch 2 has released a new video for new support hero Kiriko that shows what inspired her skills and connection to the fox spirit. The Kiriko Origin Story trailer shows how she was raised and what inspires her to become a hero to those that can't fight for themselves.
The short hero origin story video released for Kiriko shows her adopting techniques and her morals from members of her family. Between her grandmother's connection to the Fox Spirit that Overwatch 2 developers have been showing glimpses of in the lead-up to her reveal and her mother's choice to train with the Shimada clan, Kiriko was split between two ideologies to find her role in the tradition of protecting her city.

Kiriko was trained under both members of her family growing up and shows how she takes each of their teachings to become her own person. Unlike the Shimada brothers, there is no hint of an internal struggle or strife between her mother and grandmother as she gets older and chooses her own path. The Healing Ofuda and the Kunai Blades are Kiriko's main abilities and fans see her training and using both in the origin story video. It is her training in both of these skills that inspire her to be who she is.
Towards the end of the video, fans see Kiriko as part of a group of colorful characters. These are the Yokai, a group of ninjas around the same age as her that defend Kanezaka from the Hashimoto clan. The Hashimotos rose up and took control of the city after the fall of the Shimada clan. They also took her father hostage. These events led to Kiriko joining the Yokai and their pursuit of keeping Kanezaka safe.
