Overwatch 2 players are being plagued by a bug that sees them purchasing premium skins with their legacy credits unintentionally when using the in-game chat menu. It's no secret that Overwatch 2's launch has not gone smoothly, with a DDOS attack preventing several from playing and resulting in long queue times, but this bug is pretty rough once players make it past all that.
Overwatch 2 currently has two currencies: legacy credits and coins. The former is just how they sound, being premium currency left over from Overwatch 1, and coins are the new main system. All reports thus far seemingly indicate this is happening with legacy credits and not coins, but either way, players should be mindful of this bug in-game.
Overwatch 2 Players Are Speedrunning the Queue
As first reported by Kotaku, there are numerous complaints about this bug online, with the below Reddit thread being a prime example, but the bug itself dates as far back as the Overwatch 2 beta. What's happening, it seems, is that using the in-game chat menu doesn't prevent input elsewhere. In other words, everything players do in the chat happens in the game too, and so this has resulted in players accidentally purchasing skins from the in-game Shop when in the Hero Gallery.
Reddit poster Dracyoshi reveals that they automatically purchased a skin for 300 legacy credits because of this bug, while others have chimed in on bigger losses of up to 1900 credits. To make matters worse, Dracyoshi reached out to Blizzard support who would not refund the purchase. Because of this bug, it's possible Blizzard wouldn't be able to differentiate between bugged and intentional purchases, but it's still not a good look for the company.
