Original Dying Light Gets Next-Gen Upgrade for PS5

Dying Light came out more than 7 years ago on PS4, Xbox One, and PC to a mixed-to-positive reception. Developer Techland released a full sequel named Dying Light 2 Stay Human last month, which also received similar reviews from most critics. However, Dying Light 2 was a much bigger hit than the original, and it passed 3 million players in its opening weekend.

Techland had previously confirmed that the original Dying Light will get a next-gen upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Techland has now released a patch for the game on PlayStation consoles and shared details on the graphics modes that come with this update. It should be noted that this update is simply a patch for the PS4 version of the game that will utilize more of the PS5's power, instead of a native PS5 app.

Dying Light 2 Might Get New Game Plus

The official Twitter account for Dying Light states that a next-gen patch is available on PlayStation devices, with improvements to both the visual quality and the gameplay experience. The update adds 3 different graphics options when playing on a PS5. Quality mode runs at 30 FPS in full 4K, while Performance mode seemingly offers a locked 60 FPS experience at full HD. Techland has also added a Balance mode that targets 60 FPS at QHD, but it looks like the frame rate will not be as stable as the other two modes.

The update improves the 30 FPS cap on the PS4 Pro and also adds networking capabilities that utilize Epic Online Services. Techland then confirms that Xbox users will also get this update relatively soon. In a follow-up Tweet, the developer states that this update is solely for Dying Light, and a new patch for Dying Light 2 Stay Human is coming soon.
