The OnePlus 10 Pro went on sale today with some surprises: official Verizon certification and an absolutely killer trade-in deal on T-Mobile that makes the phone putatively free.
OnePlus's latest flagship got so-so reviews, but T-Mobile's sweetener could really change the game. An imperfect $900 phone is an amazing $0 phone. The base model, $899.99 10 Pro 5G will be free over 24 months for Magenta Max plan users who trade in a long list of phones, including models all the way back to the iPhone X, OnePlus 8, or Pixel 5.
That $900 trade-in is higher than the retail resale value of those phones. The iPhone X and Pixel 5 both go for $200-$350 used on Swappa. So trading in an older phone like that would net you a big profit.
You'll be stuck with the OnePlus 10 Pro for two years, but I think it'll grow with you. Many of my biggest complaints about it have to do with the OxygenOS 12 software, and they should hopefully be fixed by OxygenOS 13.
Verizon followed up today with an official announcement that the unlocked 10 Pro will run on Verizon's 4G and 5G networks, including its new C-band 5G network. The phone is missing Verizon's fastest, millimeter-wave system, but Verizon has shifted much of its focus to building out C-band.
There are a few different ways to get a discount on the OnePlus 10 Pro if you intend to use it on Verizon. Best Buy is offering a $100 discount in the form of a gift card, and OnePlus is offering free earbuds and a trade-in deal for other OnePlus phones (although not as aggressive as T-Mobile's—a OnePlus 8T only trades in at $300).
To activate a OnePlus 10 Pro on Verizon, you must go to verizon.com/bring-your-own-device/, the company said.
