Warning! Spoilers for One Piece chapter 1051 ahead!
The latest chapter of One Piece sees a long-awaited addition to the crew of the Straw Hat Pirates: Yamato. One of the main draws of One Piece is the Straw Hat pirate crew and their interpersonal dynamics that have been fostered for well over 1,000 chapters at this point in the series. Welcoming a new crew member to the Straw Hats is not a common event. The latest new addition, Jinbe, joined up more than 100 chapters ago.
Yamato, the child of Kaido, is known as both the Demon Princess of the Beast Pirates, and Kozuki Oden in tribute to the great fallen samurai of Wano. Their first appearance was in One Piece chapter 971, and their extensive history with characters such as Portgas D. Ace has since hinted at Yamato’s future affiliation with the Straw Hats. Yamato has been continually influenced by Oden’s travel journal, and has expressed a strong desire to set sail with the Straw Hats and finally escaping the confines of Wano. Additionally it's known that Yamato has already clashed numerous times with Kaido in an attempt to freely travel outside of Wano's borders, and wanting to join the Straw Hats aligns perfectly with their character motivations.
