Nvidia is addressing the low-end PC graphics card market by releasing the GTX 1630, which can be had for as low as $169.99.
Just don’t expect much performance. The GTX 1630 ranks as the weakest desktop consumer GPU Nvidia currently offers, according(Opens in a new window) to the company’s own website. The new model only has 512 Nvidia GPU CUDA cores, a downgrade from 896 cores found in the GTX 1650, a product that was originally released three years ago, but still remains on sale.
On the plus side, the GTX 1630 does have the same amount of 4GB GDDR6 video RAM. But the memory bandwidth has been reduced from 128-bit to a 64-bit bus, thus halving the amount of memory data the GPU can pull.
Nvidia describes(Opens in a new window) the GTX 1630 as an “easy upgrade for an older system.” But consumers are probably better off buying a different model. GPU vendor EVGA is already taking orders(Opens in a new window) for the GTX 1630, but at a price of $199.99. That’s around the same cost for the GTX 1650, which should be more powerful.
Other vendors such as Colorful say(Opens in a new window) they plan on selling the GTX 1630 at $169.99. However, TechPowerUp reviewed(Opens in a new window) the graphics card, and reported underwhelming gaming performance that put the GPU firmly behind both the GTX 1650 and AMD’s Radeon RX 6400, which can go for around $160.
So unless Nvidia lowers the price for the GTX 1630, it’s probably not worth a buy, especially since the GPU shortage seems to be over for now. In some cases, retailers are even offering(Opens in a new window) discounts on PC graphics cards.
Nvidia added that companies including MSI, Gigabyte and Asus plan on selling the GTX 1630. But the product has yet to appear across major
