Suda51’s dream to make a Deadpool game could finally be coming true, as he confirms he’s been in contact with Marvel.
Last year, Goichi Suda, aka Suda51, of No More Heroes fame revealed that he nearly made a Deadpool game with Activision, but it ultimately never came to be.
While his studio, Grasshopper Manufacture, plans to focus on creating original properties in the future, he mentioned in a new interview that he has been having meetings with Marvel for a potential collaboration.
Speaking with Japanese publication Automaton (translated by VGC), he says, ‘From now on, we’d like to create three new IPs and launch them one by one. However, we have also said that we would like to make IPs that are based on attractive original works, if there are any.
‘I think that will depend on the discussions we have with Marvel Studios. If Marvel Studios comes up with something good, we’ll think about it.’
It doesn’t sound like anything concrete has been finalised yet, but Suda sounds hopeful, adding: ‘We’ve had a few meetings with Marvel, and we’ve talked about the possibility of working together on something. We hope that the power of video games will help to boost these opportunities.’
Considering the No More Heroes series’ propensity towards over-the-top, bloody violence and meta comedy, Deadpool would be a perfect fit for Suda to make a game about.
In a separate interview with VGC last summer, he also mentioned wanting to work with a lesser known X-Men character called Shatterstar, a member of the X-Force team. Shatterstar made an appearance in the second Deadpool movie, but he was unceremoniously killed off, along with most of his teammates, as part of a gag.
Activision released a Deadpool game back in 2013, developed by High Moon
