According to its creator, the Nintendo Switch still has quite a bit of life left in it. The Switch might be five years old, but Nintendo says that it plans to keep supporting its highly successful modular console for some time. So far, Nintendo is putting its money where its mouth is. In terms of game releases, 2022 looks like one of the Switch's strongest years yet, featuring the ninth generation of Pokemon games, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the long-awaited Bayonetta 3, and many more hotly demanded games. If Nintendo manages to keep supporting the Switch with content like this, then it may manage to last a few more years.
Beyond that, though, Nintendo seems interested in updating the Switch itself. Switch users just learned about a significant new Nintendo Switch Online feature, for instance. Alongside the service's other benefits, NSO users now have access to a section called Missions and Rewards. As the name implies, NSO subscribers can now complete certain missions related to Switch play to earn Platinum Coins, which can then be spent on additional Switch avatar options based on Nintendo games. While the feature seems fairly basic for now, it lays the groundwork for rich Switch customization and valuable Nintendo advertising.
