Nintendo has acquired long-term development partner SRD for an undisclosed fee.
In a brief press release, the Switch maker said it has entered into an agreement to purchase 100 percent of the outstanding shares of SRD, and noted the deal will only have a "minor effect" on its fiscal results.
"[The purchase] will serve to strengthen the management base of SRD and secure the availability of software development resources for Nintendo, in addition to facilitating an anticipated improvement in software development efficiency," continued the release.
Based in Kyoto, SRD has worked closely with Nintendo for almost four decades, assisting with the development of projects including Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Game Builder Garage.
SRD has also worked on franchises including Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda, and first began collaborating with Nintendo on NES titles in the early '80s.
The acquisition is expected to close on April 1, 2022, and comes just over a year after Nintendo purchased Luigi's Mansion 3 developer Next Level Games.
