New figures from Square Enix claim that NieR: Automata sold 6.5 million units since launch, which was a staggering five-ish years ago.
The announcement comes from the game’s official US Twitter account, as well as the Japanese Twitter arm. Both tweets thank fans for their support, while the Japanese one reminds us that the game came out five years ago somehow, and this past February was actually the fifth anniversary (周年) of its release.
Well, it looks like it’s going to sell a little more, too, as the company just announced that NieR: Automata is coming to Switch later this year in October. This version will include prior DLC, as well as new outfits. At this point, you have a ton of Switch-only players who are going to bite, as well as double/triple-dippers.
To that end, that same account announced that there will be a five-year anniversary event held on November 25 and November 26 later in 2022. It’ll take place at the Tokyo Garden Theater, and there’s currently a lottery event so that folks can attend. There’s a lot of NieR: Automata news popping up this week all of a sudden! It’s always a pleasure to remember that this game exists, and it’s still wild to me after all these years to see a NieR/Drakengard-adjacent game getting so much buzz.
