July 19 is the first official drop of new titles for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, after the Essential tier released earlier this month.Assassin’s Creedfans wanting to revisit older titles are getting a ton of love, but it’s not the big game of the month. Indeed, that title belongs to Stray – a cat game from BlueTwelve and Annapurna Interactive.
To say Stray has been a viral game would be an understatement, as the simple appeal of playing as a cat has caught many eyes, and the fact that it is leading the first official PS Plus Extra drop is a nice touch. In it, players take on the role of a stray cat in a world of robots and machines, searching for its family. Players are assisted by a drone companion and must move obstacles, traverse platforms, and explore via open segments of gameplay. Of course, to top it off, players can paw, scratch, knock things over, and otherwise be a little lord of the world around them.
PS Plus Extra and Premium Games for July 2022 Take Up a Lot of Space
There’s always something to be said about quality whenever a service like PS Plus Extra adds as many games as it is (17 total) with this drop, but reviews for Stray are quite promising. Indeed, anyone looking forward to the cat game, or even if not, should be met with a promising game. Out of 69 critic reviews on Metacritic, Stray’s PS5 version holds an average of 84. It’s further worth noting that 59 of those are positive, 10 are mixed, and none are negative.
It seems many have praised Stray’s environments, overall quality of presentation, stealth, narrative, puzzles, graphics, characters, and more. It seems the term “masterclass” is floated quite often, and it says something when many are calling it a Game of the Year contender—not bad
