The rumored changes to PlayStation Plus have finally been announced by Sony and they will give the service multiple tiers, with more expensive tiers offering more content. The new PlayStation Plus tiers will launch in June and they match the rumors that have been circulating for months now, back when it was referred to as PlayStation Spartacus.
On a basic level, the new iteration of PlayStation Plus simply merges existing services and adds backward compatibility for everything except the PS Vita. PlayStation fans have been frustrated with Sony's reluctance to add backward compatibility to its systems during the PS3 and PS4 eras. The PS5 had PS4 backward compatibility at launch, but it kind of needed it, considering how slim the first-party library was at launch. The backward compatibility feature also allowed Sony to include a huge service to its latest system at launch, in the form of the PlayStation Plus Collection on PS5, which gave new PS5 owners access to a library of classic PS4 games at launch.

The new iteration of PlayStation Plus is said to launch in June and there's still a lot that has yet to be revealed about the service, especially in regards to the backward compatibility features. It's unclear what games will be coming to the PlayStation Premium Tier, as the presence of third-party games will be vital to the service's appeal.
