Summer is almost behind us, fall temperatures are in the air, and we're about to flip the calendar over to September. That means there are ample more reasons to stay inside and catch up with new content hitting Amazon Prime Video. Some of the content is available starting on September 1, while other shows and movies will be available a little later next month.
The big headline marquee attraction coming to Prime Video in September is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. This long-gestating fantasy series based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien has been in the works since 2017, when Amazon bought the television rights for reportedly $250 million--and made a five-season production commitment worth at least $1 billion. Even by the most conservative estimates, this show will be the costliest TV show ever made. To say the very least, expectations are deservedly high. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos recently told Time that adapting the series is «about responsibility,» and not all about making money.
The eight-episode first season of The Rings of Power premieres September 1 on Prime Video with two episodes to kick things off. The remaining six will debut each Friday until Season 1 ends on October 14. The show also comes just in time to offer some competition to HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series that just got underway, House Of The Dragon.
